Sloth Metropolis play an eclectic story-driven mix of progressive, psychedelic, folk, and world inspired rock. Their songs are tall tales, weaving surreal satire and every day observation into a mythology they call the SLOTH CYCLE. We follow a Sloth exploring the urban landscape of the band’s native Glasgow, modern Aristotles and Einsteins struggling with recession, alchemist idealists concocting botched utopias, and much more… the unifying elements of the band are intricate drumming, solid bass riffs, versatile keys and the unique sound of effect-laden electric-violin. The ongoing Sloth Cycle narrative that brings to mind the immersive worlds of Gong, King Crimson, Fairport Convention and Frank Zappa.

Sloth Metropolis’ live shows are an all round interactive and visual experience: the stories told in songs come to life! Summer festivals in 2015 were performed as a mini-drama, culminating in a human-to-sloth transformation, and a winter solstice gig saw them dressed as druids, summoning the spirit of Saturnalia from a giant Christmas present, and leading a ceremonial pillow fight amongst the crowd!
Sloth Metropolis have played at festivals including Doune the Rabbit Hole, Brew at the Bog and Celtic Connections, and have gigged alongside internationally renowned bands including Sleepy Sun, Earthless, and Trembling Bells.
Sloth Metropolis have self-released two E.Ps (‘Departure’ and ‘Work/Play’), an 11-minute mega single (‘Attack’), and have contributed music to the BBC One drama ‘Stonemouth’. A full concept offering: ORIGINS is coming soon.
Sloth Metropolis are primarily four human-shaped cell collectives: Calum Calderwood, Alasdair Milton, Lewis MacKenzie, and Steve McNamara.
